Due for an entry.
Due for action on the house.
Due to give birth just about any day now.

So, an entry I shall make.

An offer has come through on our house, an inspection is slated for Wednesday, and if all goes according to plan we’ll close June 30th.

Hoping to hold out until at least late Friday night so that I can attend the Nori’s in Albany. Trampoline is up for 5 awards!

So many things going on. Briar is changing so much. I know I say that every entry, but seriously. You know those time elapsed videos of flowers growing on the Learning Channel, where you see the soil break open to make room for the tiniest little green shoot, the little time ticker in the corner going at a dizzying speed as the shoot turns into a full on stalk and before you know it there is this huge blossom taking up the whole screen?

We have a blossom on our hands folks.

She is talking, singing, screaming, running, taking stairs by herself, climbing up to the slide unassisted, climbing halfway back up the slide and the sliding down as we stand on either side.

Rolling the ball around in her kicky little green corduroy skirt and black patent leather Mary Janes.

Laughing with her whole little self in the way only little kids can (or the people lucky enough to be around them having their own ability to do it unlocked.)

This is, of course, the “I am going to reach right through you and pierce your very core with the eternal ache of loving me more than you could ever possibly have imagined.”

One of the many really cool things about Briar is that she really values each moment. She lives each one to the fullest, but she does not get hung up in being sad, angry, frustrated or annoyed. She experiences the emotion and moves on. Being happy is too much fun to put off.

Anatomy of a tantrum and the return to joy.

So, in honor of the lessons Briar teaches me every day, a few quotes that seem to embody her approach to life, to living.

What we call the secret of happiness is no more a secret than our willingness to choose life.

The world is your playground. Why aren’t you playing?
– Ellie Katz

Enjoy the little things, for one day you make look back and realize they were the big.
-Robert Brault

There’s a good time coming.
-Sir Walter Scott

By being yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before.
-Edwin Elliot

The future is not someplace we are going to, but a place we are creating. The paths to it are not found, they are made.
-Jane Garvey

Choose happiness, it’s such a waste to choose anything else.
