The Wink is a labor of love, occasional source of ire and constantly influenced by the toddlywinks in my life- my daughters. There's also the HunkyWink. You'll read all about them as The Wink unfolds. Please feel free to wink back!

Lesson 239.5

Sometimes suppressing the desire to scream at the 2nd hour of the bedtime gauntlet is the thing to do. Simply padding up the stairs, repositioning the blankets so the princesses are line up exactly where they need to be, administering the 5th drink of water, applying unrequested lotion to a little back with unhurried circles and then stroking the confused brow and saying, "mama loves you. Hope you can sleep now," actually makes you both feel better.

Bet you can't wait until you can tuck them in - the first time - and say, "I love you! Sleep well! One noise that's not from gently rolling over and there'll be no computer games for a week," and get a quiet evening...

Bedtime was a chore, a pain, an irritation. It has gotten better. It has. She actually climbs into her bed these days.

I am generally on my last nerve by the end of the day. Mostly I try to take deep breaths and remind myself that I won't always have them to tuck in. But sometimes I yell up the stairs to "knock it off!"

I'm a complex woman. ;)

I know. And this is what I'm trying to remember: They are only going to call us back at bedtime for so long. And then you'll be like me one day soon--disassembling a crib while bawling your eyes out that there are no more babies. *wow, i served up some fat depression for you, huh?*

I still have the ritual with Eldest, who will be 12 next month. I will so miss the comfort I get from that.
