We have to live for this moment.
Bad hair.
Pudgy tummy.
Not-there-yet on whatever task or goal.
It’s this moment, not some moment up ahead.
You can aspire, reach and pursue whatever the heck you want, but as you do it you have to realize that this moment is incredible. And a gift.
I’ve met Susan twice in person, but I have read her words, imagined her family and rallied around her more times than I can count. I could go on and on about her, but what I really want is for you to go over to her blog and leave a word.
Hoping.
Prayers.
Strength.
Light.
Get well.
Thinking of you.
It needn’t be a masterpiece, what you need to know is that you leaving a trace of yourself, of support in whatever formation of letters it may be, will have an impact.
If you don’t have an account in place for commenting, do it anonymously. Or, simply move forward from this moment on grateful for each minute you have. Think of a mom and the people who love her battling for moments. Drop every petty bit of weight that keeps you from fully occupying the beauty of each frame you have here on earth.
See your kids in a new way.
See your spouse in a new light.
Accept the embrace of family.
Play.
I went and left a comment. Thank you for the reminder, always needed, always salient, to take a moment to realize all that I have. My dearest friend endured breast cancer at 28, and is now clear, though the threat is never gone (and her sister just died of it) … every single day I go to bed wondering why I am not more grateful, ashamed of my own inability to realize this, with her example and presence in my life. Yet I can’t. Thanks for pulling me back, this morning, to where I should be.
I think that one of life’s gifts is that we are able to loosen the tether, to free ourselves of the weight of mortality. It’s also cruel, forcing us to be shattered again and again by the capricious nature of chance. Women like Susan have taught me that even in the darkest times there is still beauty, still life to be lived.
I’d give anything to change what she and so many others are going through, so I try to honor what I have and extend these lessons.
Thank you for leaving a comment for her. I’m so glad our lives have looped together as they have, my friend.
