Walking toward the house, Avery on my hip and Briar drag-skipping from my right hand, I spy something on the ground. I rush to make sure it isn’t another gift from Barnaby, slayed, fileted and left to bake in the afternoon sun. As I get closer I realize it is still alive, and I scoot it along the pavement with the toe of my shoe. Once, twice and then he does it, he flips over. I watch him crawl away. I smile.
“Ok, girls, one minute. Mom just has to unlock the door.”
“Uh-dow,” Avery gurgles, hugging me with excitement.
“That’s right.”
“Ooh, look mom.” Briar exclaims.
I turn at the exact moment that her purple sandal stomps down, effectively halting the victorious escape of the bug.
“A bug. I got !” She looks at me, beaming.
“You sure did, honey.”
“You’re welcome,” she says as she brushes her hands together and skips through the door.
“Thanks.” And then a silent, sorry, lil guy.
You're welcome! How cute.
We have this contraption that looks like a tennis racket, but is, actually, an electrifying implement of death. It is truly frightening to watch my children swing it around the house, trying to annhilate some little fly.
Sometimes they scare me.
haha Becca is a bug killer too. like she goes out of her way to annihilate that ant population.
Ah, victory thwarted by a purple sandal. Poor bug. Cute girl.
The boys and i have been chasing flies with dish towels in the house..luckily their desire to kill bugs is confined to flies, "stingers" and icky spiders that make mom cry "argh!!". However, I know that will change sooner than later and I, too, will get "You're welcome".
I'm sorry… but I have to say… I wish Zoe would squish some bugs. As far as she is concerned they are all her friends. She picks up ants and centipedes without a moments thought. Oobees (bees/wasps) get a hearty "c'mon oobee!". Every spider… no matter how big and creepy, is called "itsy bitsy". yick!
My daughter has decided that every living creature is her friend so she sucks up even the nastiest spiders into this little vacuum gun that pulls them into a chamber without even giving them brain damage, then lets them go outside. Ugh.
I like Briars take on it better.
oh a mighty bugslayer, indeed.
And just when it thought it had escaped certain death…
When my brother was about 5 years old he pulled the wings off a poor defenseless mayfly and said to my mom, "Oh no! It's broken!" Bugs, always at the mercy of curious children.
"Poor Guy".
That's my brain, too.
Ohh, she doesn't like bugs anymore? Or was it just worms and caterpillars she liked?
"Wanna kiss it and hold it and hug it. It's a woum!" <3
